Collodion Portraits
These portraits were taken using the 19th-century wet plate collodion process, a meticulous series of coating, sensitizing, exposing and developing a glass, tin, or acrylic plate within the span of about fifteen minutes. Despite this limited window of time, the process itself is slow and thoughtful and each step feels as much an integral part of the end result as the image itself.
One of my subjects is the legendary black-and-white developer and printer Klaus Kalde, whose studio & darkroom I used for these portraits.
Ongoing project.
